Tricks And No Treats

Well, my fine Beersgiving friends, the time has come to put this event to sleep till hopefully next year. There was just no more room at the inn anymore, as the old saying goes. I knew trying to find a place with a month or so to go was going to be nearly impossible and it was. It breaks my beer stained heart and liver to do this, but do this I must. I will not run some half assed beer festival just to have one. It's not fair to you, the paying customer and it's certainly not fair to all the great vendors who wanted to attend. I will now shift into future mood to see if these places that are currently booked now are really interested in doing this in 2012,  and they don't end up changing their mind like some other place that we all loath. But that part of the deed is lawyer land and the least said about that the better till it's all worked out. What more can I say except I'm sorry. Is it better to try and fail then to never try at all? That's is the question and I sure don't have a good answer.

Tick Tock

Well boys and girls, we are now near zero hour. It has not been a very easy journey to say the least. Trying to find a place that is not booked already or is large enough to hold the most of the brewers and at least 200 of their friends,  is running out of options. I just don't think it is fair at this point in time to just have something that only a 100 people including only a couple of brewers could attend. So come Monday the 24th, I will make the final call. Let us hope for the best.

Hanging By A Thread

There is no need to spin this any further. We are down to the last gasp of Beersgiving. We haven't given up hope, but hope sure looks like it has given up on us. We know you want this to happen. I know I want this to happen. There is a whole bunch of beer folk who want this to happen. The question is, can we make it happen?
We are down to three possible choices for this event. If nothing can come of this by the 20th, we might have to call it a day. And I dread that day.
So, dear beer gods, clean my glasses and help me find a place for all the fine Beersgiving folks come November 19. Amen.

Still Life

I know the first question on every ones mind is "what happen to the fest?" And I would love to tell you, but I still have some legal things to work on, so until then, I will bite my tongue. The search goes on for a place and there is an outside chance we may have found  one. I will know more later tonight or tomorrow. This much I can tell you, Beersgiving is going to be a lot smaller than the original, so, if and when tickets go on sale,  I would not wait. Just saying.
I thank all of you for the kind words of support and I also want to thank all the beer people for (so far) putting up with me. I think it's time for a big beer......

And Away It Goes

The last two days have been as strange as it gets and I will have a better story about all this craziness over at the other blog , maybe Monday. But for now, I need your utmost attention. This is part of the e-mail I received last night from Sunnybrook.

We had a board meeting this afternoon, and have decided that it is in the best interest of SunnyBrook to cancel this event.
So, what this means is quite simple. If you have purchased a ticket for this festival, go back to where you bought it and get a refund. Do not take it anywhere else. Only the place you bought it from can refund your money.
With only 40 some days left, the possibility of moving it to somewhere else is slim to none at this point. I am willing to listen to whatever offers are out there, but it would have to be done pretty damn quick. Please don't flood my inbox or phone with messages today as I got a hell of a lot of work to do with this problem.
I will have more to say later about all this, but I got a lot of undoing to do.
Thanks and much beer love

Drafting Away

We take another look at some of the fine people helping out with Beersgiving

When it comes to places that have been in the forefront of the craft beer biz, this place is right up there with the best of them. The Drafting Room has been serving great food along with a stellar display of beers over the last 17 plus years. Whether it's an all Rouge day or their anniversary night with a beer made for them by Troegs, it is always a good time. Right now for all you footballs fans, they are doing 3 dollar cans such as 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die and Back In Black, not to mention those Sly Fox goodies during all the games. And the way the Eagles are playing, that could add up to a whole lot of cans. Then on November 10, Mr. Patrick Mullin will be stopping by his former stomping ground for a Sierra Nevada beer dinner. So while you are there enjoying yourself, why not purchase a ticket from those fine people, you'll be glad you did.

Frank Smith Beverages

We take our first look at some of the fine people helping out with Beersgiving.

When it comes to craft beer and imports and a few other of the fine things in life, it gets no better for selection in the Pottstown area then Frank Smith Beverages. In the last several years, this store went from a nice little place with some selection of beers, to a powerhouse of 2500 brands and a service team not to be beat. And the one thing everybody should like right away is events like this:

So, while you are there today sampling and drooling over all the beer choices, why not pick up your tickets for our event? It's great one stop shopping!

Some Days You Win And Some Days You Lose

Those words are extra true when it comes to beer festivals. No matter how hard you try, there are always going to be problems. The bad news was that Hill Farmstead will not be here. They just don't have enough of that sweet hop goodness to go around.  We understand 100%.
On a brighter note, Evil Genius Beer Company is on Board. And as soon as the brewers, reps and other important folks get back from GABF, we should be wrapping up our beer list later in the week. Now get ready for some October Ticket Paloozaa!

Mo, Mo, Mo, And Mo

For you non Facebook/Twitter folks, this ones for you. Welcome Stone Brewing and Sixpoint Brewing to the fest! Now,  if I could only tell you about this consident GABF medal winner who's coming.....

I Think You're Starting To Like Us

We are now starting to average nearly a 100 hits a day here. That is a far, far cry from the early days, when we got that number over a two week span. Your hunger for more info about this event is wonderful. You also don't know how bad I want to write these several new breweries that I'm looking at right now, on our list, but we must have patience until we get the final go ahead. Those hard working brewers and reps have one hell of a busy schedule right now and trying to sync up with them is sometimes quite a challenge. But try we must. The same goes for our food friends, but I think we will be announcing some of them next week. Trust us, when we know, you'll know just as fast.

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Welcome back to the new and slightly improved Beersgiving website. We have been toying with this for a couple days, tweaking this and tweaking that. And we still got a couple more twists to go. So, while you wait ever so patiently for the next update in the beer and food category, spend some quality time at one of our lovely ticket sellers located to the right and ask yourself one question. Did I get my tickets yet?
Beersgiving would also like to welcome The Railroad Street Bar to our fine places of ticket sellers. Also look for a official announcement about their ride program for this event.
Last but not least, we will be doing a profile of our ticket selling places and once we get a little bit closer, the beer too.
PS Less than 60 days boys and girls!

The Three Beer-e-teers

I find that some people need to know what beers will be pouring at a fest. Others want to know what kind of food will be there. And then there are those, who want to know, who's going to be there. Well, let me answer the last question first.
First up is a man who can clear a room with his mighty laugh. He can bend pretzel sticks with his bare hands. He has more blogs than the average bear. Yes, boys and girls, beer writer, drinks writer, book writer and bike rider, Mr. Lew Bryson will be here to drink beer and sell some of his great books.
Second is a man we already have discussed, but gosh darn it, we're doing it again. He also has written a couple great books and has a weekly column at the Daily News and is one of the founders of Philly Beer Week, and is teaming up with the CBB for this event,  Mr. Don Russell aka Joe Sixpack.
Last, and most certainly not least, is a man who lives and breathes beer. Who's writing skills have inspired a nation of wannabe bloggers everywhere, the one, the only, Mr. Jack Curtin.
I think we here at Beersgiving need a beer ourselves after all this commotion. But first let's welcome 3 more breweries to the mix, Penn, River Horse and Victory. Good things always come in threes.

The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round

So, you're thinking about going to Beersgiving, but you live kinda far away. Maybe you live in the Lansdale area, maybe you live in the Reading area. Or maybe you live in Philadelphia. Nobody wants to drive you back and forth to the fest. And nobody is going sit around for 4 hours while you eat and drink and laugh your ass off and have a great time. Or are they?
Well boys and girls, I know somebody who will. The Craft Beer Bus. Yes, just like Superman, the Craft Beer Bus is coming to your rescue. They will be making a stop in each of the towns listed to pick you up and take you back and have some fun in the process.
But wait, there's more! If you are coming from Philly, you will have at least one special guest riding with you, when Mr. Joe Sixpack, aka Don Russell, comes along for the ride. Which means lots of trouble, but in a good way.
So, what the hell are you waiting for? Get on that website and order your tickets and then kick back and relax, and let CBB take good care of you!

Pimping Ain't Easy

74 days to go and the strong pimp hand is ready to flood the airwaves after a lovely Labor Day weekend.
We've got this blog, we've got Twitter and we got Facebook. And you're starting to run out of excuses not to know about this event. Some of you out there may get a little tired of all this, but I'm not stopping till 500 tickets are sold. So stop me before I pimp again.

80 Days Of Pimping Left

You have read the headline correctly. There is only 80 days left till Beersgiving. 80 days till you're standing in one of the biggest ballrooms on the east coast sampling a great beer, out of one hell of a cool glass and noshing on some fine light foods. 80 days till you and your old college buddies, friends and long lost family members get together for some pre Thanksgiving fun. 80 days till you try and find out where all the cool after parties are going to be. And hopefully 80 days to you say to everybody, "I sure hope they do this again next year".
But there is a catch to all this. You need to buy a ticket. Now, I know what you are thinking, hell, I am right there with you. It's early yet, I got time, I have a lot of Labor Day stuff to get to. Then 80 becomes 60 and 60 becomes 30 and next thing you know, you're at a Halloween party and someone says, "Hey did you get your tickets yet?" Well, they are not being sold online, you will have to go to the places listed, bring your cash and pony up. Maybe you wait to see what new breweries will be there. Maybe you will wait to see what the food will be. And maybe, just maybe, you might wait too long.
So get ready Freddy. The strong pimp hand is getting ready to unleash it's pimping power upon you fine folks. We're only just stretching it out right now.

What Song Do You Want To Hear?

Everything and everybody has a theme song. Some are happy, some are scary and some are pure simple 30 seconds of mindless pop. Except us. We don't have a theme song, yet.

So, without further adieu, I bring you the "Write The Beersgiving Theme Song And Win Two Tickets To The Festival Contest" A crazy last minute what the hell let's have some fun with this sucker kind of contest. Now of course there has to be some type of rules and regulations, but hell, I can't think of any really good ones right now, except that the word "Beersgiving" must be used in the song and it must be about our little shindig. Maybe I will even get in touch with some of our local ticket sellers to see if they want to have a live "Beersgiving Idol" performance of the final 4 maybe, but until then, a nice simple video on You Tube is the way to go. Please, pretty please, don't flood my inboxes with videos, instead flood this twitter account and this blog with links to your song. How will we pick the winner? An esteemed panel of judges, a vote by the masses, nah, more than likely we will all get drunk one night and review them all. I dunno know just yet. Those details will work themselves out over the weekend. You just have to stay tuned, get it? Now start writing!

This Is What We're Talking About Willis

Another day, another five more breweries added to Beersgiving. That brings our total up to 25, with 7 more lurking nearby in negotiations. So let us welcome aboard, Stillwater, Dark Horse, Mission, Willamsburg and Uncommon.
For those checking things out in a mobile browser, you have to go to the web version to see the list of breweries and places to buy tickets. If need be, I can switch the mobile to just a web version for you fine smartphone folks. It's your call.

Welcome Aboard Frank

We welcome Frank Smith Beverage's in Pottstown to our fine list of places where you can buy our tickets at. And please do not forget to treat these places nicely. They are all doing me a huge favor!

Twitter Dee And Twitter Dum

Okay, just this one time, I promise. Beersgiving is getting ready to get all a twitter on your asses. Starting pretty damn soon, like next week, you will be able to get all your updates and our thoughts about putting on this fest right at your fingertips. As long as you put your beer down first. Because I know how thirsty you can be reading a long twitter post, he says with tongue in cheek. Also be on the lookout for the Facebook pimping explosion right after Labor Day. Cause I know nobody reads in the summer.
We are also in contact with our friends at the Craft Beer Bus for some transport options. And it looks like the next wave of brewers should start hitting by the end of the week, so stay tuned. And get those tickets kids!

We Are Almost Half Way To 50

More good news today as several more names jumped on the Beersgivng express. It pushes us officially to 20 with several more lurking in the wings. And I think those wings are going to be flapping real soon.
Also, we welcome Sly Fox Rofo and Union Jacks to our ticket locations. Look for our posters there and in the very near future, every damn good beer bar in the area.

Let's Get This Party Started

Today is day one of ticket sales. For your entertainment here is the list of places right now where you can buy them.

I still have a couple more stops on my list to get to, hopefully later today after I sweat out all the beer I drank over the last two days. And now a word of advice, please be patient. More than likely there are still a few bugs in the system as places figure out how they want to sell tickets and also inform their staff. I would think most places will ask for cash, so be ready. So don't you worry or don't you fret, this ain't selling out today, not just yet.

What You See, Is What You Get

When you go to buy your ticket to "Beersgiving", this is what it will look like. Now for those who haven't been drinking, you might notice a couple of strange things. Like the the date. That was the day of my original fest, which I shot down, but not before these tickets got printed. So our thoughts were, why waste them. The 19th is right. Saturday is right and so is the time. It just November not March. I think we can handle that. Most of us are grown ups now......

Tickets on sale August 1
In the all important news of who's coming with what beer. I have been waiting for the all important dotting of the I's and crossing of the T's. There is around 25 so far, but I would rather wait a few more days while most of them sober up from BCTC this weekend.

Virtual Reality

Here it is boys and girls, fresh from the farm, Virtual Farm that is. Todd Palmer and the hard working folks took my vision and made it 10x better. This is what you will see when you go to buy tickets next week at your local watering holes. I will be trying to add a few more places to the list this week. Also it's just about time to add some more beer to that list. Look for those new additions during the week.

Behind The Scenes

The one thing about putting on a beer festival is you need a lot of help. You need more insider beer knowledge than you would ever know. You need volunteers to help with every small nuance on the day of the fest. You need the crack team from Virtual Farm to bring your vision to life. You need the great folks at Sunnybrook to keep trusting my crazy beliefs. You need fine people in the beer business to help sell tickets. And most important of all is, we need you, the customers to help out by buying those tickets when the time comes. It has been almost ten years since a fest was held in this general area of this size. The closest ones that come to mind were the old Desmond fest and I'm guessing Stoudt's annual fests. If we ALL can pull this off, maybe just maybe, we will all have something to look forward to every Saturday before Thanksgiving.

In other news, keep checking the right side as we add new places to buy tickets and each week we will add several new breweries to the list as well. We're definitely in the dog days of summer, but there will be some cool relief at the end of the sunburned rainbow.

Who, What, When, Where, Why And How

Damn, that's a lot of questions, but that is to be expected for something like this. So let's give it a go, shall we?

Who: That would be me, Mr. Dan, Mr. TNSC, Big Fella and a whole host of names I wont get into here.

What: Beersgiving, a thankful celebration of the seasons food and beer. Aka: beer fest

When: November 19 2011 at 2pm to 6pm sharp.

Where: Sunnybrook Ballroom
50 Sunnybrook Road
Pottstown PA 19464

Why: To raise money for the continued revitalisation of Sunnybrook. And to hopefully let everybody have a good time.

How: Ah, this is the hard part. With a hell of a lot of work from a wide ranging group of people to put this together, to you, the future customers, and we all hope by 7pm on November 19, to be all very happy.

I guess there is still some more questions like, when and where do tickets go on sale?
The answer to that is August 1. The where part is on the right side of the blog.
How much are tickets? They are $50. Beer ain't cheap and I ain't making no money off this sucka.
Who is going to be there? Yes, the million dollar question. Hold on to your mugs kids, the list is taking shape as we speak.
